When the Christmas cards arrive each year it is always good to catch up on the news of those that we only hear from once a year. Most contain the words “where has this year gone?”. Often there are snippets of information about children, parents, family, pets, holidays and other interesting news.
I receive a card from a very dear friend and his wife every year and in that card he includes a letter. The letter is always newsy with lots of information about everything that has happened in that year and is probably very similar to other letters that we receive and love receiving. However this one always moves me every single year for something that I feel is quite unique.
At the end of the letter he always provides some words of wisdom, this year he says:
After relating our news for the year , here are a few things for you to ponder and think about:
Emily Pankhurst said: “It’s deeds not words that count”
A mistake that makes you humble is better than an achievement that makes you arrogant
The biggest tragedy in life is “we get old too soon and wise too late”
Francis Bacon said “Money is like muck, no good except it can be spread”
and then the one that really did bring tears to my eyes;
The most wonderful places to be in the world are:
In someone’s thoughts
In someone’s prayers
In someone’s heart
If we could all keep these in mind then definitely the world would be a better place!
