A new coffee shop has opened in Southend, Essex which has been set up to provide training and work experience opportunities for adults with learning disabilities.
‘The Novel Coffee Shop’ is run by Southend Mencap. The Novel Coffee Shop opened it’s doors on Wednesday 11th April at 98 London Road in Southend. It offers a variety of freshly ground coffees, served by barista trained staff, as well as a range of teas and plenty of homemade cakes. They are also offering cream teas and are looking to introduce special afternoon teas in the future. Also within the cafe there is a chance to look for a book/DVD/Vinyl/CD.
There is outside seating that is available in the warmer weather where customers can enjoy their drink and cake.
The thing that made this new cafe stand out to us was when we heard that it will provide training and work placement opportunities for adults with learning disabilities. These opportunities are often hard to come by so it is always great when you see businesses becoming all encompassing. There are opportunities for people to volunteer at the shop also.
The cafe is always on the lookout for any good quality books, CDs and/or DVDs. If you wish to donate them then you can take them direct to the cafe.
Opening times are Monday-Saturday 9.30am-4pm and you can also find them on Facebook as well by clicking the link – The Novel Coffee Shop Facebook
