Save the date:

As you all know we had no option other than to postpone the Banana Crumb-Ball that was supposed to be happening in September 2020.We were really disappointed as we wanted to build on the momentum from the great event we held in 2019 and to raise even more funds for the Southend Cystic Fibrosis Association.

The good news is that the Halfway House have agreed to delay our event and we have now got a new date of Saturday 9th October 2021. We know it is a long way in advance to give you notice but hopefully if it goes in your diaries now then you will be able to keep the date free.

We really hope that 2021 will be the perfect year for a huge celebration and it will be great to be able to dress up, party and raise some much needed funds. We will obviously be sending out details closer to the time but we wanted to make sure that you had the new date as soon as it had been confirmed.

Looking forward to a bigger and better Banana Crumb-Ball in 2021. We hope to see lots of you there. We raised almost £5000 in 2019 and are hoping that we can raise something similar next time. Thank you to all of those who had said they would attend in 2020 and we hope that you will join us in 2021.

Watch this space!!!

As the weeks of social distancing increase and time is racing by we have had to make a decision about the Banana Crumb-Ball. Whilst we all really want the event to go ahead and to raise much needed funds for the Southend Cystic Fibrosis Association, after discussion with the charity, potential attendees and the venue we have decided to postpone our ball. In particular with the charity being for Cystic Fibrosis and this is the category where shielding has to be taken into account making large events for families difficult until things get back to normal again.

We were all looking forward to another great evening but by it being postponed for a year it gives us more time to come up with bigger and better ideas and hopefully by then everyone will be in the mood for a great party. After living in tracksuits and sports gear for months this will be a perfect opportunity to dress up and will be something to look forward to.

The new date will be a Saturday in September 2021 so we hope to be able to let you know the exact Saturday very soon so that you don’t miss out on all the fun and of course to help raise funds for the SCFA.

The venue has been great and are honouring prices agreed which is great news so we will be able to keep ticket prices at £50.

The Banana Crumb-Ball is back!!

Last October we ran the first Banana Crumb-Ball which was a huge success and we raised over £4800 for the Southend Cystic Fibrosis Association. On the evening and since people have been asking when we are running the next one. It has taken us a few months to put things into place but back by popular demand is the second Banana Crumb-Ball.

The event will be held on Saturday 26th September 2020 at :

The Grand Marquee, which is at the Halfway House, Brentwood, Essex. CM13 3LL
This is at the junction of the A127 and A128

I know that we have members from all over the country but if any of you that are Essex based and fancy the chance to put on a dinner suit or posh frock then look no further it would be great if you could come and join us and to help raise funds to help with the fight for Cystic Fibrosis.

Tickets are £50 a head and it includes a three course meal, welcome drink, live entertainment and a DJ. The event is 6.30 for a 7.15  sit down and carriages are at 1am. More information about the evening will follow shortly.

Tables take between 8 and 12 people so if you can sort out a table then this would be great. If you can’t get a full table don’t worry we will be able to find a table for you to join. There are 150 places to fill so to avoid disappointment please get in early and reserve your tickets.

We will be having auction items, a raffle and other events during the evening. Last year’s Ball was such a success and we are really hoping that 2020 will be bigger and better and help to raise even more funds. To reserve your ticket please email amandaaustin@bananacrumble.co.uk

Thank you Banana Crumble ….

Last week we posted saying that we had handed over a cheque to the value of £4808.35 to the Southend Cystic Fibrosis Association (SCFA). This was the total of the monies that we raised with our first Banana Crumb-Ball. We had a thoroughly enjoyable morning spending time with Lisa Hyde, who is treasurer of the SCFA, her husband Chris, their amazing daughter, who has Cystic Fibrosis, Sophia and Peter and Barbara Holmes also from the SCFA. After the cheque was presented they told us about how the money would be spent and how much it would help the charity going forward.

Today, I received a lovely thank you letter from the SCFA. Here are some extracts from that letter:

On behalf of the Southend Cystic Fibrosis Association, we would like to thank you for everything you have done for our charity and for raising such a monumental amount of money £4808.35. Words cannot describe how grateful we are for all that you have done for our charity in the past year.

The Money that you have raised will make a significant difference to the people and their families living with Cystic Fibrosis in the Southend area.

Examples of the sort of help we give are medical equipment such as nebulisers and portable oxygen: an exercise allowance/ help with purchase of equipment to encourage general fitness, help with travel costs, counselling and other ad hoc requests.

Our charity is run entirely by volunteers, most of us parents of a child with CF. There are NO administrative costs. All money donated is, and will continue to be used to improve the quality of life of those living with Cystic Fibrosis in the Southend area.

We are really glad that the money we have raised will go to help so many people and hope that our legacy of spreading good news, positive and inspirational stories will serve to inspire others.

Breakfast, tea, coffee and a cheque!!

Back at the beginning of October we held our first Banana Crumb-Ball where we were giving all monies raised to the Southend Cystic Fibrosis Association. We all had an absolutely fabulous evening and were so proud to have raised £4808.35 to give to the SCFA.

We wanted to wait until we had all of the monies back from all different things on the evening and are really pleased to have been able to hand the money over to Lisa Hyde of the SCFA and her daughter Sophia, who has Cystic Fibrosis.

Sophia has been featured in our articles and is truly inspirational. She runs, swims, dances, cycles and in fact does absolutely everything with such determination, including chat about Harry Potter. I think Matt met his match on the Harry Potter knowledge front!!! We had such a great evening back in October and to be able to hand the money over and to hear about the real difference it will make to people made all the hard work worthwhile.

Will we run another one – watch this space?

None of this would have been possible without the help of all the people who gave money, bought raffle tickets, came along on the evening, donated raffle and auction prizes. It really was a great team effort and one that hopefully has made a big difference to so many people.

Oh What A Night …….

We are really pleased to say that our first Banana Crumb-Ball was an overwhelming success with hopefully everyone having a great evening. We have been sorting out the monies today and are just waiting on a last auction prize before we can give a final amount but at the moment we are really pleased to say that our event on Saturday raised just under £4000. This amount of money should make a real difference to the Southend Cystic Fibrosis Association and we are looking forward to hearing how they plan on spending the money.

We all enjoyed a three course dinner, live music from The Hugh Rainey Dixieland Jazz Band which was all followed with lots of dancing to the Halfway House Resident DJ.

We would like to say a huge thank you not only to those who attended but to all those that donated raffle or auction prizes and helped to make the evening a success. Without the generosity of all of these companies raising this amazing amount would not have been possible so from all of us a huge thank you… We would like to say a really big thank you to Alton Garden Centre, Anna Holmes, Asda, Audi (Southend), BMW, C2C, Christine and Alan Hyde, Cut, Craft and Sew, Fortnum and Mason, Karl Miller, K. It is actually here…..

Today is the day that finally all the hard work and preparation has been geared to. It is the day of our Banana Crumb-Ball and everyone is looking forward to what will hopefully be a really great evening. The theme of the decoration is a secret but we are definitely trying to get the theme to link in with our fundraising charity The Southend Cystic Fibrosis Association and of course for it to be a Banana Crumb-Ball there must be some bananas but other than that we are keeping tight lipped and hoping that  everyone will love how things look for the evening.

Outfits chosen, shirts ironed, shoes polished, Prosecco chilled, hair sprayed and all the last minute preparations will be underway. We will of course include plenty of photographs of the event in our future articles and will be able to update you with how much money we have raised. The Southend Cystic Fibrosis Association aims to provide equipment and services to improve the quality of life of those with CF in the Southend area. Once we have donated the money then we will tell you how they plan to spend the money.

Hopefully after the event everyone will be talking about what a great evening they have had and that we hope with all the raffle items, games and fundraising that people will not only have had a fantastic time but helped raise lots of funds but also come away with some goodies and mementos from the evening. Again we would like to say a huge thank you to all the companies that have helped us either by donating raffle or auction prizes. Thank you to Altons Garden Centre, Asda, Audi (Southend), BMW, C2C, Christine and Alan Hyde, Cut, Craft and Sew, Fortnum and Mason, Karl Miller, K. Mosby Financial Associates Limited, Liam Gillan Photography, Maria Nayler, Mangetout Bar and Grill, Myatts Field Cocktail, Nekta Florists (Thorpe Bay), Old Southendian and Southchurch Cricket Club, Sam, Brady, Sands by the Sea, Scott Hardisty and the Pirtek Racing Team, Starstruck Autographs, Summerhill Garden Centre, Surf Restaurant (Chalkwell), Taylormade Chauffeurs, Validity, The Vanilla Room Hair and Beauty Salon (Hornchurch) who have all played a major part in either donating gifts for the raffle of for the fantastic auction prizes we have been able to offer. Without you we would not have been able to raise these funds so we can’t thank you enough.

Roll on this evening!!!

Thanks Ryan – we have changed its name …..

Back in June we sent an invitation to everyone to our event we are holding on Saturday 5th October at The Grand Marquee, The Halfway House, in Brentwood Essex. We called it The Banana Ball. Having sent out the flyers one of my friends asked why we hadn’t called the event the Banana Crumb-Ball? We thought his new name was so much better than our original name so have now changed all of the literature and we are now hosting the Banana Crumb-Ball!! He said he wanted a mention so here you go Ryan.

Tickets are selling fast but there are still plenty more available. If you would like to join us please email amandaaustin@bananacrumble.co.uk. If you are unable to join us but have any ideas for raffle or auction prizes we would love to hear from you. We are looking forward to dressing up, having a great evening and raising lots of money for the Southend Cystic Fibrosis Association.

Thanks Ryan for the new and improved name.
