Banana Chat- meet Ben Knowles

I am Ben Knowles a 29 year old from Kent. I work as a freelance musician, both teaching and performing. I play viola and piano but am more active as a conductor of both symphonic works, opera and musical theatre. For the past two years, I have been participating in large numbers of endurance events (marathons, bike-rides, swims, Ironmans, etc.) to raise awareness and money for Cystic Fibrosis.

What is your favourite joke?
Too dark to write here!

What makes you smile?
Cats – massive cat-lover. Music (my job and hobby) and making other people happy.

What is your favourite good news story?
When my CF student had her annual review and her lung function had improved.

What inspires you?
Two people I have met with Cystic Fibrosis – one is the reason I got involved in the campaign, a young girl I have taught violin since she was 4, who approaches life with an amazing enthusiasm; the other is a Banana Crumble writer, Natalie Crawford, who has CF and ran the London Marathon in four and a half hours.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
I’d want to see everyone have their health – both physical and mental so they could enjoy their lives without limits.

If you could have one superpower what would you choose and why?
Healing touch – it is very tough seeing people, especially ones dear to me, suffer with illness and pain. I’d give anything to take it away from them.

What is your favourite food?
Pasta!

What is your favourite drink?
Pineapple juice

If you are going on holiday what luxury item would you take from home?
Books!

If you could make one law, what would it be and why?
I’d make it illegal for pharmaceutical companies to overcharge for medications – an independent body would set a price that would be fair to the company but affordable to the health service and proportionate to the prevalence of the illness to the country. I’d make this law so health wasn’t dictated by money.

Give us a random piece of information about you that people wouldn’t know?
Very nearly went into psychology instead of music.

What is your favourite phrase or saying?
“There are no magical fixes. It’s all up to you. Nothing in this world that’s worth having comes easy.”

What cause, project or event would you like to promote?
Cystic Fibrosis! We desperately need Orkambi, Symkevi and the Triple Combo medications available in the UK on the NHS to save the lives of 10,000 people who suffer this hideous illness.

Who is your favourite music artist?
Janine Jansen – concert violinist

Who is the person that you feel has shaped your life most?
Hard to choose between my close family members but probably my Grandad – he got me into music which is now my job and hobby.

Hot or cold? Hot

Cat or dog? Cat

Blue or pink? Red!! But blue if I had to choose

Tea or coffee? Tea

Banana Chat – meet Trevor Rayment

My name is Trevor and I am from Collier Row, Romford in Essex. Originally my Dad had a cleaning business.  I went to art college for 3 years and then became a window cleaner ha ha!! I now own a cleaning supply business but am basically a glorified window cleaner. Because of my job, motorcycling and all the sports I’ve played I have met so many good inspirational people and have learnt to discount the bad useless downers that try and suck your energy, whether they can help it or not.

I used to be a motorcycle racer and you learn to get up and go again which carries through my life. I’ve left it late after being in cover band ‘Squabbler’ for 20 years, to now write and record my own music. Don’t let people tell you you’re too old to start anything, who cares, if it makes you happy. My music might make me a millionaire, more likely just be proud of the fact I’ve done it.

Everyone can do something. No one is more important than anyone else. I’ve had big problems in my family, so has everyone, it’s not a competition, get on with it and act positive.

To listen to my music on Spotify, click here.

Banana Chat – meet Leo C

Hello!

My name is Leo C and I’m a 17 year old folk/rock n roll musician from Southend, Essex. I have released 3 singles this year, ‘Let’s Hear it For The Fascists’, ‘You’ve Got it all’, and my most recent ‘We Age’. My biggest aim in music is to expand myself and create art which is bigger than myself.

Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/3mYZmYnXpJQk6oF6ktq6Jp?si=iPPp7ksDTuumIxEa9WxBJQ

What is your favourite joke?
My favourite joke is myself!

What makes you smile?
I’m sure everything has the capacity to make me smile, especially my friends and family, but one thing that always can is Anderson Paak’s soothing vocals on ‘Anywhere’ feat. Snoop Dogg.

What is your favourite good news story?
A woman married Jesus Christ a couple weeks ago which is pretty fun.

What inspires you?
What inspires me the most are the concepts and the context behind some of the music I listen to, for example Kendrick Lamar’s album ‘To Pimp a Butterfly’. That album has encouraged me to take extra time to wonder what meanings I want to create through specific sounds and words. Also, the books I study in A-Level English inspire me greatly, I’ve written songs influenced by works such as ‘A Handmaid’s Tale’ by Margaret Atwood and ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’ by Tennesseee Williams.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
If I could change one thing in the world, I would make polar bears less inclined to rip your face off because they would be way nicer if they didn’t kill you.

If you could have one superpower what would you choose and why?
I wanna be able to fly because I’ve always wanted to be a bird.

What is your favourite food?
My favourite food is garlic bread. Damn, it’s good.

What is your favourite drink?
My favourite drink is lime and lemonade, I have it at every gig I play at.

If you are going on holiday what luxury item would you take from home?
I would take my guitar, it’s not that luxury but it’s always there when I get some inspiration or need a bit of money!

If you could make one law, what would it be and why?
I would increase the amount of money musicians get from streaming websites because artists should be given their deserved cut!

Give us a random piece of information about you that people wouldn’t know?
I would tell you some crazy stuff about me, but I don’t wanna get assassinated tomorrow!

What is your favourite phrase or saying?
My favourite phrase is “I love you more than Kanye loves Kanye”.

What cause, project or event would you like to promote?
I’d love people to get behind local musicians more and help them grow and gain traction!

Who is your favourite music artist?
Of all time, my favourite artist has to be Bob Dylan. But at the moment, Kendrick Lamar is so amazing to listen to and watch create beautiful pieces of art.

Who is the person that you feel has shaped your life most?
Obviously, I have to say my parents. Without them, I wouldn’t have been turned on to music at all. I wouldn’t have been interested in creating art without my parents.

Banana Chat – Meet Tim Ajayi

My name is Temilolu Ajayi, but you can call me Tim Ajayi. I’m 24 years young. Born and raised in London, I later grew up in Essex before moving to Florida, US to study Economics and play Football. Since graduating I have found work as an Analyst for a Mergers & Acquisitions firm in the US. More importantly, I am an independent artist striving to share my music with the world. So executing this master plan is what I do in my spare time.

What is your favourite joke?
I was gonna tell a joke about Sodium but Na…

What makes you smile?
Seeing family and friends make progress in their endeavours

What is your favourite good news story?
A friend of mine made the decision to dedicate her post graduate endeavours to building and operating an orphanage in Ghana – now known as Project Nyame Nsa. This is a young girl, who does not lack privilege of any sort, actually sacrificing herself to the need of children who would otherwise have little to no support growing up. When I heard Project Nyame Nsa was materializing I was pleased to learn the lives of these kids were about to change for the better – all because of a girl with a huge heart.

What inspires you?
Having the ability and opportunity to inspire others by awakening them to self-empowerment.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
Our society’s dependence on a Capitalist system. While I don’t necessarily believe in the existence of a utopian society, a lot of the world’s problems come from the cut throat economy we’re forced to live in.

If you could have one superpower what would you choose and why?
The power to speak things into existence. Oh wait, I have that. I’ll have to go for invisibility then. A lot of good can be done by an invisible man…

What is your favourite food?
I would have to pick between a fresh plate of my Mum’s Jollof Rice or her Pounded Yam and Egusi Soup. Whatever meal includes more meat quickly becomes the favourite.

What is your favourite drink?
Water. Or a cupla cans of Kopparberg.

If you are going on holiday what luxury item would you take from home?
A grinder

If you could make one law, what would it be and why?
Major Record Labels must have potential mainstream artists take an IQ test of some sort. What good is a dumb person in a position of power?

Give us a random piece of information about you that people wouldn’t know?
My entrepreneurial exploits began in High School, selling cookies. Many tried but I like to think I had the greatest market share!

What is your favourite phrase or saying?
“Jheeeez”

What cause, project or event would you like to promote?
I would actually like to promote my latest music project “Made for More”. This piece looks to integrate both UK and US musical influences, while painting a picture of my unorthodox journey thus far. I offer an array of thought provoking content and captivating flows over a wide selection of genres, from Grime and Drum & Bass to Hip Hop and Soul. This project not only serves to showcase my musical abilities but to also expose the listener to the concept of self-empowerment and visualization. It can be found on Soundcloud, YouTube and Audiomack, with a few singles soon to be released on Apple Music, Spotify and all other servers. Check it out. I hope you enjoy and feel free to let me know what you think!

Who is your favourite music artist?
Tupac Shakur. Cliché? I think not. His complicated yet inspiring personality and his passion for meaningful music, are traits I resonate with. With that being said, you can find the likes of Erykah Badu, D’Angelo, Krept & Konan, Skepta and Lana Del Rey on my go to playlists.

Who is the person that you feel has shaped your life most?
Can’t choose between the two, but hands down Mum and Dad. Don’t even need to say much, I’m infinitely grateful

PJ’s or Not?

Hot or cold? Hot

Cat or dog? Dog

Blue or pink? Depends… But a lot of my clothes are Blue

Tea or coffee? Coffee

Glass half-empty or glass half-full? Half-full

Pyjamas or not? Not

Night out or night in? Night in

Pizza or pasta? Pasta

Biscuits or cake? Biscuits

Wine or beer? Wine

Football or rugby? Football. Though I did give Rugby a try…

Cinema or theatre? Cinema

Gym or TV? Gym

Naughty or nice? Nice

Silver or gold? “I’d rather have Jesus than Silver and Gold” but as I wait, Gold!

Tent or hotel? Hotel

Bath or shower? Bath

Starter or pudding? Starter. Unless I’m with a date, then neither

Sheets or duvet? Duvet

Love Island or Game of Thrones? Highlights of Arsenal’s invincible season

Finally, apple or banana? Banana
