Last night saw the return of Crackerjack to Children’s BBC.
It first ran from 1955 to 1984, with 5 main hosts, Eamonn Andrews (1955-64), Leslie Crowther (64-68), Michael Aspel (68-74), Ed Stewart (75-79) and Stu Francis (80-84).
Last night’s format followed similar lines to the original series with comedy, music and competitions for children. Stu Francis was also involved. A Crackerjack pencil is famously presented to every contestant and last night was no different. Even the game Double or Drop remained.
The revival was presented by Sam Nixon and Mark Rhodes. Long may it continue in it’s Friday night slot, although this time round it was at 6pm (on CBBC) not its coveted “five to five” slot!).
