What is motivating me to climb Mount Kilimanjaro……

My name is Jessica Maisey and this summer I will be climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro for the charity Hope for Children. I am currently a student in first year at Loughborough University and I heard about this trek through the Loughborough Rag reps. I aim to raise a total of £2990 to maximise the number of children we can help. Summitting Mt. Kilimanjaro will be a major physical challenge as it is the tallest free-standing mountain in the world, yet I am determined to raise awareness and money for the charity who are helping such an important and detrimental cause.

Hope for Children is a small established charity who raise money for children living in poverty across the world. The money raised provides education and healthcare to children living in crisis, a privilege to them but also a necessity for a healthy life – necessities should not be privileges. Nearly 50% of the world’s children live in extreme poverty, and Hope for Children are working towards decreasing these numbers, because all children deserve to have the same start to life. Being a small charity, they can meet unrecognised people in hardship and help them to have a fulfilled life, although change starts small it affects not only the children but their parents and future generations.

I was truly inspired when I learnt about Hope for Children: I have younger siblings myself and have volunteered at multiple primary schools previously, so it’s safe to say that I enjoy being in the company of children. It pains me to know that there are children living in this modern world still experiencing food and water shortages, with no home or safe place to rest their head at night. The heart-breaking truth is that when children in poverty get sick, they have a very slim chance of survival. With the aid from Hope for Children these instances are decreasing slowly, and children are starting to live the life they deserve.

I am going to be climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro to raise awareness for Hope for Children, and in preparation I am slowly building up my training schedule and hope to be going to the gym and swimming pool 4-5 times a week. This is going to be a very strenuous and physically tiring trek, however I believe with my determination and motivation I will summit the mountain in high spirits. To be able to say I have climbed Mount Kilimanjaro before the age of 20 will be incredible but saying it’s for charity makes it even more worthwhile!

I would be greatly appreciative if you could donate to this cause via my Everyday hero page, help the children get the schooling and healthcare that they need. Please, if you have any questions or want to find out more about getting involved then just send me a message! Thank you again for taking the time to read this article and an even greater thanks for your donation, you are doing an incredible thing.
