Dining and dashing is a curse that all restaurant owner’s face. Read this story and your faith in human kind will be restored.
On December 8th, which was a particularly busy Friday Evening, owner Apollo Apollinaire realised three of his customers had left without paying. The restaurant concerned was Kilimandjaro Restaurant and it is in Linthorpe Road, Middlesbrough. Apollo came into work a few days later and had received a letter from the three men, with cash inside and an apology.
In the letter it explained that the three men had wanted to pay by credit card, which the restaurant doesn’t accept. They said that they would go to a cash point machine to get some money to pay the bill. However they were not locals and struggled to find a machine, they then realised that they were going to miss their last train home. All thoughts of the bill vanished as they dashed to make their way home.
It read: “It is with our deepest regret that not being from Middlesborough we are not able to come to Kilimandjaros in person to apologise. Additionally, we will be giving a positive five-star review of your establishment on Tripadvisor.”
Apollo was really surprised and posted the story on his restaurant’s Facebook page. He told his local paper “I didn’t think people still did that. I thought those kinds of people had disappeared from the planet. We accepted they would never come back and we had lost the money. It was just amazing. Everyone was shocked and people are finding it really touching.”
After posting the images on the restaurant’s Facebook page, plenty of people commented to say it had restored their faith in humanity. Jason Matthews wrote: “Fantastic. At least they owned up and paid the bill…still some good people in the world after all.”
Dave Charlton added: “Not often that will ever happen in these days. More people like those are what’s needed!”
We all make mistakes and more often than not, they are completely genuine. Reading a story like this reinforces that the majority of people are honest and that there are Good News Story’s happening all of the time.
