Little did he realise how much good his action would do.

We all enter raffles and it is often a really great way of raising money for charity. Sometimes we win things that are absolutely fantastic and then others not so good. One raffle winner certainly caused an internet storm when he entered a raffle for a Birmingham homeless charity called Outreach Angels. Mark Whitehouse won tickets to the Championship football game between West Bromwich Albion and Stoke City. Mr Whitehouse is a West Brom season ticket holder and already had tickets so he decided to donate the tickets back to the charity.

The charity gave the tickets to a homeless man named Sean who was a Baggies fan. News of the donation spread and in no time at all money was raised for the homeless man so he could have an Albion shirt and a scarf plus £20 to spend at the game. A charitable foundation set up by former West Brom striker Geoff Horsfield heard about the act and are now trying to help the homeless man to find accommodation and get him medical attention. More money has been raised to try and get him a season ticket.

This just shows how a small act of kindness can snowball. Not only has this man been helped but it has raised awareness and shows that through sport amazing things do happen.

Kanye West donates to the homeless…

Kanye West is one of the most famous music artists in the world. He is also supposedly known to be one of the most miserable and self obsessed people in the world. But is that really true?

Earlier in the week Kanye West was seen stopping his £150,000 Lambo next to a homeless man with a sign saying “Veteran on the road, anything helps”. He then sends his security guard over with a wad of cash for the Army Veteran. It’s acts like these that normally don’t get reported about high profile stars.

This is a nice act by Kanye who, when asked about the moment, said, “I know God’s been calling me for a long time and the devil has been distracting me for a long time”.

Sports people spending flash with their wages?!

Sports people regularly get ridiculed for their enormous wages and the amount of flash items they spend their money on…. so why do the good things they do get such limited coverage?

Tyson Fury made over £7 million from his recent fight with Deontay Wilder…. and do you know what he did with it? Donated it all to charity. When Tyson Fury did his tour of America before his fight, he was shocked by the number of people who were living rough on the streets. He vowed then that with his fight purse, he would help people living homeless in the UK.

Tyson Fury was quoted in one of his recent Q & As – “I did give away my last purse but I don’t do charity work for a pat on the back,” and “I do it to help people but I do not want praise for it, I don’t want to be called a do-gooder.”

Well you may not want recognition for the amazing work you do, but hats off to you the Gypsy King.

Winter has come….

The weather in the UK has dropped suddenly in the last week, with snow covering wide parts of the country. The weather in the UK is nothing compared to what is currently happening in the USA. In the USA in the last week temperatures in Chicago have had lows of -32C with a wind chill factor making it feel closer to -45C – that is colder than Antartica, Alaska and the North Pole.

Homeless people living on the streets are those worse to suffer with the lucky ones having a tent to shelter in whilst many must brave the cold conditions with nothing but a blanket and the clothes they wear. That’s when one mystery person paid for over 70 homeless people around Chicago to stay in a hotel for the rest of the week. The unnamed donor picked up the bill for these people – what a selfless act. Times like these are when people pull together best and show what true human spirit is all about.

In these cold times please make sure if you see any homeless people on the streets advise them of what options are available for them. As our readers are from all over the country, here are just a few options that are available to help those in need this winter.

  • If you see someone in need of urgent medical attention, dial 999 immediately.
  • Let rough sleepers know that emergency shelters are open as they may be unaware that the extra services are running.
  • Send an alert to Streetlink, an app run by a charity of the same name which connects rough sleepers in England and Wales to local agencies who can help find them a warm bed for the night.
  • Buy a rough sleeper a blanket, a cup of tea, or a hot meal. “UK homelessness charities are almost unanimous on the question of giving money: it is better not to,” says The Guardian, but instead ask a homeless person what you can buy to help.
  • A friendly chat is always welcome.
  • You can also offer to donate money to charities working to end homelessness or volunteer and campaign with them directly. “Your power to help homeless people extends far beyond individual actions and encounters,” says the charity Shelter

San Jose – hiring the homeless!

The city of San José in Northern California, America is launching an initiative that will both clean their city and provide jobs for homeless people.

They are hiring 25 local homeless people to pick up rubbish around the city for $15 an hour. By hiring homeless people to clean up the streets the city hopes to provide them with a way to eventually transition themselves back in to full-time work.

The workers will start by cleaning up 40 different areas around town that have been identified as litter hotspots and dumping grounds. It’s hoped that, if the homeless employees find a sense of purpose with the work, they will also be able to dissuade their homeless acquaintances from contributing any more litter to the hotspots.

Homeless people will be hired and managed by a charity called Downtown Streets Team, an organisation that works to end homelessness. The program is currently being financed through a $200,000 litter abatement grant from the city and if the initiative proves to be successful, then city workers are eager to see it continue into the future.

Help can come from the most unexpected places….

Twenty seven year old Kate McClure ran out of petrol around midnight in a rough part of her home town. Realising she was stranded she got out of her car to walk to the closest petrol station. A homeless man saw that she was in trouble and told her to get back into her car and lock the doors whilst he would get her petrol. Twenty minutes later the man knocked on her window and had spent his last $20 to buy Kate her petrol to get her home safely.

Kate was so touched by this amazing gesture, she set up a GoFund Me Page alongside her boyfriend to raise some funds to get Jonny back on his feet. Since the page was set up over $380,900 has been raised for Jonny. Jonny has since managed to buy a camper van with the money and has moved off the street.

Jonny has come out to thank everyone for their generosity and said that this amount will completely change his life for the better. Saying “Damn y’all did all that for me. That is changing my life right there. That is awesome. Thank you!”
