Stuff that dreams are made of….

There are lots of charities all trying to help different people in so many ways. Probably most people haven’t heard of the vast number of charities and good causes that are out there. One such charity is The Ebony Horse Club based in Brixton in the heart of London. It is one of the most disadvantaged communities in London. The aims of the charity are:

We believe that riding and horse care can have a transformative effect on young people growing up in South London’s most disadvantaged communities. We teach life skills, build confidence and provide opportunities.

What has changed for this charity and why is it good news? At the beginning of August Khadijah Mellah won the Magnolia Cup at Glorious Goodwood as it has been named. She was competing against Victoria Pendleton, former Apprentice star Luisa Zissman and TV personality Vogue Williams to name but a few in the all female race. Mellah learnt to ride at the Ebony Horse Club but actually only sat on a race horse for the first time in April – a truly remarkable achievement for this young lady.

Stereotypes are often created in sport and it is hard to break these down but what Mellah has done is prove that no matter what you can achieve your dreams. Giving people a chance to try things that they may not have thought about can open so many avenues for people and it is with those experiences that people are made.
