Record breaking Dame Vera

Dame Vera Lynn was the Force’s Sweetheart during the war and her “We’ll Meet Again” epitomises everything to do with that wartime spirit. When the 75th anniversary of VE Day happened just over a week ago the nation once again joined together to sing that iconic tune.

On the back of this anniversary Dame Vera Lynn’s Greatest Hits album was once again brought to prominence and with the resurgence in popularity charted. In fact, the album made it to number 39 in the charts. Nothing particularly unusual in that but what it has done is to make Dame Vera a record breaker. At the grand old age of 103 dame Vera is now the oldest person to ever have an album in the top 40. One hundred and three, still breaking records and still bringing the country together!

We’ll Meet again

Dame Vera Lynn celebrated her 103rd birthday on the 20th March 2020 and yet again she is calling for the nation to unite and to find moments of joy in amongst hard times. Dame Vera  was the forces sweetheart during the war and for her 103rd birthday her anthem “We’ll  Meet again” has been released more than 70 years after its first release.  Dame Vera is hoping that people will once again keep smiling and keep singing and says:

‘Music is so good for the soul, and during these hard times we must all help each other to find moments of joy. Keep smiling and keep singing.”

We don’t know what is around the corner but know how important it is for some positivity and for people to join together so hope that the keep smiling message will help us through what will be difficult times over the next weeks and months . Stay safe everyone and remember to pick that phone up or to check on a neighbour. No use saying I haven’t seen you for a week, knock on a door, stick a note through the letterbox or make that phone call. It is easy to assume that everyone is ok!! We are all in this together and need to think of ways that we can all help.
