We’ll Meet again

Dame Vera Lynn celebrated her 103rd birthday on the 20th March 2020 and yet again she is calling for the nation to unite and to find moments of joy in amongst hard times. Dame Vera  was the forces sweetheart during the war and for her 103rd birthday her anthem “We’ll  Meet again” has been released more than 70 years after its first release.  Dame Vera is hoping that people will once again keep smiling and keep singing and says:

‘Music is so good for the soul, and during these hard times we must all help each other to find moments of joy. Keep smiling and keep singing.”

We don’t know what is around the corner but know how important it is for some positivity and for people to join together so hope that the keep smiling message will help us through what will be difficult times over the next weeks and months . Stay safe everyone and remember to pick that phone up or to check on a neighbour. No use saying I haven’t seen you for a week, knock on a door, stick a note through the letterbox or make that phone call. It is easy to assume that everyone is ok!! We are all in this together and need to think of ways that we can all help.

Happy Birthday Sound of Music….

55 years ago today, The Sound of Music premiered in cinemas, featuring the incredible singing performance of 28-year-old Julie Andrews as the spirited nanny who goes to work for the von Trapp family in Austria. The patriarch disciplinarian played by Christopher Plummer places the guitar-playing nun in charge of his seven lonely children. The music by Rodgers and Hammerstein contains some of the most memorable songs of stage and screen, including Edelweiss, My Favourite Things, and Do-Re-Mi. Based on the memoir The Story of The Trapp Family Singers by Maria von Trapp, the film became one of the highest grossing films of all time, grossing $286 billion dollars worldwide after several re-releases, and won five Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

Banana Crumble – Happy 2nd Birthday!

It is two years since we launched Banana Crumble and in that time we have raised over £6000 for The Cystic Fibrosis Trust. We have written over 430 pieces of Good News, interviewed over 130 people in our Banana Chat features and publicised numerous good causes, inspirational people and other charities.

We have had to change the way we run Banana Crumble as we were unable to generate enough income through the advertising to carry on with the prize draws. We are still hopeful that one day someone or a company will pick up on what we are doing and what we have achieved and help us to carry on our ideas and enable us to revert to our original idea of being able to offer weekly cash prizes.

In the meantime we are publishing our Banana Chats, featuring Good News articles and hosting events to raise money for Charity. This year we have held an afternoon tea, held a fundraising day at Asda in Shoeburyness, hosting our first ever Banana Crumb-Ball on the 5th October and hoping to run some more fundraising events.

Banana Crumble has helped us to look at the positive things that are going on in the world and enable us to do something positive with our time and we hope that through our fundraising and articles we are helping you to do this too. Even if we bring just a bit of happiness along the way and make you smile whilst raising money for charity then we have all done something worthwhile.

Happy Birthday Charlie – you are an inspiration!

Don’t you just love it when you read a story on social media and your heart just melts?

This is exactly what happened when our Banana Crumble Team saw the following tweet…

Isn’t it so inspirational that someone of 8 years of age has this sense of giving and understanding in his life that he wants to help support a charity that means so much to him and his family. This story had such close resonance with Banana Crumble, as our charity of the year is the Cystic Fibrosis Trust!

Thank you for being such an inspiration Charlie and Happy Birthday from all of us here at Banana Crumble!
