Sleep, eat, push, repeat…

Certainly no one can say that they haven’t used their initiative!!

Lockdown has been tough for everyone but it must be even harder for elite athletes who are in the middle of training for events that may still be years away. Top athletes have to time their training to peak for major competitions and obviously not having access to the normal training facilities will be really hard for most.

We saw a feature on the current Jamaican two man bobsleigh team. They had been competing in Austria just as lockdown started. One of the team lives in England while the other lives in Jamaica. With the timings of lockdown it meant that both athletes went into lockdown in England. They have been trying to stay fit and obviously refine technique and keep in peak condition. Not easy to train for the bobsleigh but they found a novel way of doing this. They have been pushing a Mini Cooper around an industrial estate to help with their resistance training. Certainly no one can say that they haven’t used their initiative!! They have said they are training really hard and in the majority of their days they sleep, eat, push and repeat!! We will definitely be keeping an eye out for them at the next winer Olympic Games.
