Back in May we featured a Banana Chat interview with Alex Hoskyn, founder of the Chatty Cafe Scheme. To read this feature click here.
Over the last few months we have kept in touch with Alex and her scheme to combat loneliness has gone from strength to strength. We have seen tables featuring her Chatter and Natter tables popping up all over the country and the idea has also taken off abroad.
When I first spoke to Alex the idea was just a small one and she was just starting out but recently I saw some news about Alex and wanted to share it with you. She has been shortlisted for The Innovation For Ageing Awards which take place in January 2019.
Loneliness is such a common thing and there are so many people, young, old, men, women, from all kinds of backgrounds that suffer. It can cover every facet of the population. The Chatty Cafe Scheme encourages cafes to have a table where people are encouraged to sit and talk to the people that are using that table. An idea, inspired after Alex had her son and wanted some company. Such a simple idea but one that can make such a difference. In their latest newsletter The Chatty Cafe Scheme say they have now got 611 venues taking part in their scheme, not just in cafes but in libraries and pubs too. Perhaps you know somewhere that may like to join the scheme or you know someone that would enjoy a chat with a friendly face then contact them at The Chatty Cafe Scheme.
Banana Crumble would like to wish Alex all the best and hope that she gets the recognition that she deserves.
