Banana Crumble were lucky enough to meet a really inspirational lady last week whilst at the Cowes week sailing regatta. The lady in question was Annie Lush who is the three times women’s yachting World Champion, Olympian and Round the World sailor. In 2015 she was part of the first all female crew to win a leg of the Volvo Ocean race (a professional Round the World race and one of the longest and most extreme sporting events in the world). She has also sailed with Ben Ainslie. She is trying to encourage more women to be involved in sailing.
Annie was such an inspirational person to speak to and her passion for both sailing and for the 1851 Trust was clear to see. She spoke about how the trust was trying to encourage more people into the science based subjects and the skills and benefits people can learn both on and off the water. For such a high profile sportswoman she was so approachable and easy to talk to. If her enthusiasm is catching then there is no doubt that all of those who have crossed her path will be inspired to follow in her footsteps or become involved.
