Banana Chat- meet Tom Badley

by Banana Crumble | Oct 31, 2018

Hello, I am a 20-year-old Royal Marines Commando based in Scotland who grew up in London. I spend most of my time working, in the gym, or wishing I was home. Before Basic Training I was fresh out of college studying History, Drama and Design and Technology. I love getting outside whatever the weather and exploring. I like to think I push my friends out of their comfort zones and get them doing things normal people my age wouldn’t be doing. For example, for my 18th birthday, instead of getting drunk and forgetting the whole night, it was spent dragging two close friends up to the Peak District where we spent the weekend very wet and cold.

What is your favourite joke?
My brother recently asked me to stop singing Oasis songs in public.

I said maybe…

What makes you smile?
Seeing my closest friends having a good time around a camp fire.

What is your favourite good news story?
100% would have to be homeless dogs being rescued and adopted by new families. I could easily watch those videos for hours on end.

What inspires you?
A good challenge! If someone tells me that I cannot do something because I am not fit enough, clever enough, or good enough, I will devote all my spare time to prove them wrong.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
I would get rid of mobile phones. I find it sadly comical how you can have a train full of people, all looking down at their phones, never speaking to one another, day in, day out on the same commute to work. It also sickens me how kids would rather play candy crush then climb a tree or get muddy in some puddles.

If you could have one superpower what would you choose and why?
I think time travel would be pretty handy. As well as going back in time to meet famous people, or going into the future to see what the year 3000 would really be like, I also reckon forgetting your login password or losing your keys would be a thing of the past!

What is your favourite food?
Hot Apple Pie with whipped cream on a cold winter day.

What is your favourite drink?
Dr. Pepper mixed with Jack Daniels

If you are going on holiday what luxury item would you take from home?
My headphones. No matter where you are in the world, any awesome views can be made even more epic with awesome music.

If you could make one law, what would it be and why?
I would bring back National Service. I think my generation could really do with more discipline and a bit of toughing up.

Give us a random piece of information about you that people wouldn’t know?
I can’t sleep with socks on. I have tried multiple times but just can’t seem to get my head round it.

What is your favourite phrase or saying?
If serving is beneath you, leadership is beyond you.

What cause, project or event would you like to promote?
The Royal Marines Charity. Too many lads have spilt their blood for this country, and yet they come back and are left to fend for themselves. The Royal Marines Charity offers much needed support to both veterans and their families.

Who is your favourite music artist?
It differs depending on my mood, but currently Billy Eilish.

Who is the person that you feel has shaped your life most?
Without a doubt my dad. He has made me the man I have become, has encouraged me every step of the way through any undertaking, and most of all, was a friendly voice for me to talk to every Sunday without fail during basic training.

PJ’s or Not?

Hot or cold?

Cat or dog?

Blue or pink?

Tea or coffee?

Glass half-empty or glass half-full?
I’m more of a “Stop talking about the bloody glass and drink it already!”, kind of person. What will be will be.

Pyjamas or not?

Night out or night in?
Night in.

Pizza or pasta?

Biscuits or cake?

Wine or beer?
Wine, specifically Port.

Football or rugby?

Cinema or theatre?

Gym or TV?

Naughty or nice?

Silver or gold?

Tent or hotel?
Hotel, I have had enough cold and wet nights out in the field to not turn down a dry, warm bed!

Bath or shower?

Starter or pudding?

Sheets or duvet?

Love Island or Game of Thrones?
Game of Thrones!

Finally, apple or banana?
Banana. I have been force fed them enough to finally like them.
