Hello, we are Rooksin from the Southend area! Consisting of Rob, Matt and Felix forming to make indie pop sounds creating a summer loving, easy going sound. Having been playing at various open mic night things as a band we are starting to feel like we are setting off now. We have been quite busy recently having been on our first ever tour playing to some seaside towns and more recently to supporting Southend’s very own ‘Get Cape Where Cape Fly’ at Chinnerys! We have also been using our time recording some of our own songs at SS2 studios. We currently have two singles available on online streaming sites with more songs in the pipeline! What is your favourite joke?
What’s a frogs favourite drink? Croaka Cola
What makes you smile?
Being in a band plays a big part in making us smile. We enjoy the performing side of things the most. Seeing people in the audience starting to sing, dance and enjoy our music brings a lot of satisfaction. Also, just hanging out as a band and being on the road is enough to make us smile by generally messing around and having a laugh.
What is your favourite good news story?
The world cup this year! Watching England playing exciting football and seeing them bring the country together by getting to the semi finals was great fun to be a part of.
What inspires you?
As a band the summer inspires us. We enjoy writing up beat music that captures the summer vibes. We like to think that we don’t take ourselves too seriously other than the occasional black and white photo.
If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
We’d make sure that everyone would listen to ‘Sunseeker’ by ‘Rooskin’
If you could have one superpower what would you choose and why?
Time machine so all our accumulators would come in
What is your favourite food?
Chicken Jalfrezi or Vegetable Pasanda for Rob of course!
What is your favourite drink?
A nice can of pop but if we are good then a nice glass of Malbec or Sauvignon Blanc.
If you are going on holiday what luxury item would you take from home?
Rooskin never leave home without a guitar capo so probably that.
If you could make one law, what would it be and why?
For everyone to stand up when they hear ‘Sunseeker’ by ‘Rooskin’ like when they hear the national anthem.
Give us a random piece of information about you that people wouldn’t know?
Rob and Matt were both in a production of ‘Footloose’ together. Matt still performs with ‘LODS’ (Leigh Operatic Dramatic Society) with their next production being ‘Spring Awakening’ which is on at ‘The Palace Theatre’ from 17th-20th October.
What is your favourite phrase or saying?
‘By a hair’s breadth’
What cause, project or event would you like to promote?
We think that SoSlam deserve a shout out! They work hard in the Southend music scene and community to put on events, introduce people to music for the first time and promote local music!
Who is your favourite music artist?
As a band I would go with ‘The Kooks’. We have seen them a few times live together and still listen and sing all the songs. When we were in school we used to sing all their songs at the time in the playground going air guitar with one headphone in each ear! Looking back it must have sounded awful and kinda annoying for everyone else!
Who is the person that you feel has shaped your life most?
From a music point of view we owe a lot of our sounds and influences to The Kooks, The Wombats, Florida Georgia Line and Arctic Monkeys. These kind of bands have inspired us to perform and be in a band.
