Banana Chat - Meet Imogen Culliford

by Banana Crumble | Dec 19, 2018

Hi, I am Imogen. I am a primary school teacher currently living in Southend-on-Sea. I absolutely LOVE my job and am a firm believer that happiness and the way you spend your time is much more important and valuable than money (…good job really!). I live with my 2 dogs who are my world and I absolutely adore all animals. I was born in Cornwall and grew up in Kent where my mum, dad and younger sister still live.  With the mention of family, that leads me on to my cause. I am running the Brighton Marathon next year for Diabetes UK as my mum is a Type 1, please take a mo to read my story:

What is your favourite joke?
What do you call a woman in the distance? ……Dot! (sorry!!)

What makes you smile?
Random acts of kindness (just done out of niceness with no ulterior motive)- undertaking them, witnessing them and receiving them!

What is your favourite good news story?
It’s just been announced that flash glucose monitors being available on the NHS as of April 2019, making life for Type 1 Diabetics that little bit easier! Also, the progress made by the adults and children on the recent programme “Old People’s Home for 4 Year Olds” plus the genuine friendships they made- so heartwarming!

What inspires you?
Anyone who can defy all odds and has the mental strength to push themselves to reach their goal

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
AHH tricky! Probably get rid of money as it’s the root of so many issues such as war, greed, power and so on!

If you could have one superpower what would you choose and why?
I have always wanted the watch from the programme “Bernard’s Watch” so I could stop time and get up to mischief! I am also ALWAYS late so feel like this could come in handy.

What is your favourite food?
Anything Greek -meze, halloumi cheese, humous, olives!!

What is your favourite drink?
Wine, diet coke and good old H2O!

If you are going on holiday what luxury item would you take from home?
Passport? Travel itself is a luxury!

If you could make one law, what would it be and why?
Daily meditation/yoga to be mandatory. I think it would benefit mental health, managing stress, promote well-being and just make people a whole lot calmer and nicer!

Give us a random piece of information about you that people wouldn’t know?
One of my ancestors is Robert Culliford -a notorious pirate from Cornwall in the 1600’s.

What is your favourite phrase or saying?
It’s nice to be nice!

What cause, project or event would you like to promote?
I am running the Brighton Marathon for Diabetes UK as my mum is a Type 1 Diabetic and has been since she was 4 years old. I would like to promote awareness and give people basic understanding of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes and know that these are 2 very different illnesses.

I also have a quiz night coming up to raise funds. It’s on Friday 25th January at Great Wakering Primary Academy. Starts at 7pm, teams of up to 10, £5pp and it’s bring your own drinks and nibbles- come along!

Who is your favourite music artist?
Tricky! It depends on my mood and the day I’ve had. I love Alt J, Years and Years, Snow Patrol, Florence and the Machine, The XX, Biffy Clyro and of course Britney!!

Who is the person that you feel has shaped your life most?
My mum and dad- they are both amazing in their own fabulously quirky ways and have absolute hearts of gold, I love them!

PJ’s or Not?

Hot or cold?

Cat or dog?

Blue or pink?

Tea or coffee?
Tea in the evening (with chocolate) and coffee (lots of) in the mornings!

Glass half-empty or glass half-full?
Who cares… just pour me some more wine! Just kidding, I am definitely a half full kind of girl!

Pyjamas or not?

Night out or night in?
Depends on my mood/who it’s with!

Pizza or pasta?
I’d snap up either if they’re gluten free!

Biscuits or cake?
As above!

Wine or beer?

Football or rugby?

Cinema or theatre?

Gym or TV?

Naughty or nice?
Depends on the occasion/person!

Silver or gold?

Tent or hotel?
Again, totally dependent on the company, I could have fun staying anywhere with the right people.

Bath or shower?

Starter or pudding?

Sheets or duvet?
Duvet and lots of dogs!

Love Island or Game of Thrones?
Neither -I can’t say I have watched much of either of them!
