Banana Chat - meet Emily Frith

by Banana Crumble | Dec 05, 2018

I am a 19 year old singer / songwriter and graphic design who lives in  Southend and Norwich. I have been writing songs since I was about 11 years old, and recently started releasing music to platforms like Spotify and iTunes.
I’ve gained quite a large following on Instagram from my music, and have recently become a ‘Belles and Gals Sponsored artist’, patron for the ‘Carli Lansley Foundation’ and also endorsed by a brand called ‘VocalZone’.

Over the past year, I have been discovered by BBC Introducing, and my music has been ‘track of the week’ twice; which has been so surreal!

As well as being a musician, I am also a University student studying graphic design; as this is also something I love to do. I feel really lucky to be able to have a career in music, as well as study a subject I really love. It’s a busy lifestyle, but I love every single second.

What is your favourite joke?
I don’t know if I have a favourite, but the one that I always seem to remember is “What did the sea say to the beach? Nothing, it just waved”

What makes you smile?
Good company; whether it’s my family or friends, or an audience of people listening to me play my music, I am so thankful to be surrounded by such kind and amazing people, and that makes me smile the most.

What is your favourite good news story?
I love hearing about people that have made a difference; on Facebook, I always find motivational articles about people who have saved lives whether it be a person’s or an animal’s; devoting their time to help someone or something else. Those good news stories always warm my heart & inspire me so much.

What inspires you?
Life in general always finds ways to inspire me. The ups and downs, the bad days and good days, the people you meet along the way; it all inspires how I look at life, and how I live mine.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
I just really wish everybody would be less judgmental. We should all just accept one another and stop bringing each other down. Forget the stereotypes and be your own person, without the fear of somebody judging you for it. The world would definitely be a much friendlier place.

If you could have one superpower what would you choose and why?
Invisibility. For sure! I’ve always loved that concept. It would be so cool to just travel around without anybody knowing where you were.

What is your favourite food?
Chicken nuggets. That’s just a fact that’s never changed. I like quorn chicken nuggets too; so if I ever become a vegetarian, this fact still wouldn’t change.

What is your favourite drink?
I absolutely love peach iced tea. I drink it so much; tea in general is my favourite drink really.

If you are going on holiday what luxury item would you take from home?
Probably a camera; my family and I tend to travel to the British countryside and farmland when we go on holiday so it’s nice to get some pretty photographs of my favourite places to look back on in the future.

If you could make one law, what would it be and why?
I don’t want to be too serious, but having ‘cat-calling’ and verbal sexual assault be made illegal is something I am very passionate about. I don’t really understand why it’s not already.

Give us a random piece of information about you that people wouldn’t know?
I am obsessed with the film ‘Parent Trap’ (the 1998 version). It’s been my favourite film since I was really little, and I don’t think that’ll ever change.

What is your favourite phrase or saying?
I have a million different quotes that I love; and I am always posting them on my Instagram, but my Gran once told me that “everything happens for a reason” and I’ve lived by that for years now, and it’s never been wrong.

What cause, project or event would you like to promote?
I am actually releasing a lot of new music recently, so I am promoting that a lot at the moment; it’s a big deal for me, because I have finally found my feet and style, and I can’t wait for people to hear all of the new music I’ve been writing. Why don’t you take a listen?

Who is your favourite music artist?
I have always loved Taylor Swift; she introduced me to country music, and most of the artists I listen to today and is just such an inspiring female figure to have in my life.

Who is the person that you feel has shaped your life most?
This is a hard question, because I feel like everybody I’ve ever met has had some sort of influence to my life choices, but recently, I think my sister has shaped my life a lot; we’re quite similar in age and have therefore grown up together; learning from each other constantly. She’s always believed in me, inspired me and taught me to care less about what people think of you, and I just think that’s a really special life lesson to live by.

PJ’s or Not?

Hot or cold?   Hot. Always hot.

Cat or dog?  This is the hardest question anyone could ever give anyone. I really don’t know; I have a dog but she acts nothing like a dog hahaha! Okay I’m gonna say ‘dogs’ because having one honestly changed my life.

Blue or pink?  Blue; it’s the colour of my eyes.

Tea or coffee?  Tea, forever and always.

Glass half-empty or glass half-full?  Glass half-full always.

Pyjamas or not? Pyjamas!! I don’t understand why anybody wouldn’t want to wear such comfy clothing with cute designs on them?!

Night out or night in? Night in! I once left the club with my friend, so we could go home & watch Shrek. I will never be a party animal.

Pizza or pasta?  Pizza; and yes I like pineapple on my pizza if you were wondering.

Biscuits or cake? I’m actually not a huge fan of cake; for my birthday I always have an alternative like macarons or donuts etc… So I’m gonna say biscuits!

Wine or beer? Wine! I really want to visit a vineyard – that’s like a dream trip for me.

Football or rugby?  I’m not a sporty person at all, but as my sister works for premier league football, I’m going to say football.

Cinema or theatre? Cinema; I really love a good film with some cinema popcorn!

Gym or TV? TV hahaha! I’ve never stepped foot in a gym.

Naughty or nice?  Nice; although I used to be the cheekiest little girl when I was growing up.

Silver or gold? This actually changes so much for me, but I have been wearing a lot more silver recently, so I think I prefer silver.

Tent or hotel? Hotel; I’ve never gone camping, and hotel breakfasts are probably one of my favourite things in the world.

Bath or shower?  Bath; I love bath bombs so much.

Starter or pudding?  Starter; I’ve never been a ‘dessert’ person either. I definitely prefer savory foods.

Sheets or duvet? Duvet! I have to be all warm and cozy. Sheets are too thin.

Love Island or Game of Thrones?  Love Island. I tried to get into the Game of Thrones series but I just really didn’t like it so I guess Love Island is the one.

Finally, apple or banana?   Bananas; I always have bananas in my fruit bowl!
