Banana Chat – Meet Dannii Hutchins

This week’s Banana Chat is with our inspirational person of the week Dannii Hutchins, Community Fundraiser for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust…

Hi, I’m Dannii and I am a Community Fundraiser for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, based in Portsmouth with my husband and our two guinea pigs. I am very lucky that I get to work with so many wonderful supporters and get to speak with some really inspirational people within the cystic fibrosis community every day. It so amazing to see them do such incredible things to raise funds and awareness, supporting all of those affected by cystic fibrosis.

What is your favourite joke?
I like all the cheesy stuff you’d fine in a cracker, like:

Q: What is black ,white and red all over?

A: A sunburnt penguin!

What makes you smile?
My family, friends and my two bonkers guinea pigs!

What is your favourite good news story?
Every good news story is well worth a read, but I just read one about how a little girl, probably no more than 2 years old, cried at an animated movie because the cartoon dinosaur fell over and wanted it’s mum. She cried, then cried with joy when he found his mum. Just goes to show sympathy and empathy are within us right from the start!

What inspires you?
My colleagues and supporters at Cystic Fibrosis Trust – everyone is so passionate and works so hard for the cause, it’s a real inspiration to watch and learn from them.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
Another difficult one, there is so much I’d change, but I’d say particularly I’d want there to be a way that no person with cystic fibrosis’ life is limited by their CF.

If you could have one superpower what would you choose and why?
Teleportation! There so many places I’d love to visit, but there’s never the time or the air fares!

What is your favourite food?
The BEST dish I’ve ever had – Bobotie! A South African favourite.

What is your favourite drink?
San Pellegrino – the orange one!

If you are going on holiday what luxury item would you take from home?
My SLR camera

If you could make one law, what would it be and why?
Either that access to life-changing drugs shouldn’t be limited by funding or that ivory sales are banned worldwide and carry harsher sentences.

Give us a random piece of information about you that people wouldn’t know?
I am absolutely petrified of peacocks! Snakes as well….but peacocks more so!

What is your favourite phrase or saying?
“The optimist sees the donut, but the pessimist sees the hole”

What cause, project or event would you like to promote?
The Cystic Fibrosis Trust ( – they fund vital research into cystic fibrosis and its treatments as well as provide information and support to all those affected by the condition whilst also campaigning for change. I am very proud to be one of the charity’s community fundraisers!

Who is your favourite music artist?
Bob Marley is my all-time favourite!

Who is the person that you feel has shaped your life most?
Saving a tough one until last! I am incredibly lucky to have both my parents and both my step parents in my life, all of whom have contributed to the way I am now in different ways.
