A Pumpkin - so big you can sit on it!

by Banana Crumble | Oct 29, 2018

The Royal Horticultural Society gave away pumpkin seeds to many organisations earlier this year and one of these has grown in to a whopper with a “massive” 10 foot circumference!

It was grown by an Essex resident (Tom Warren) as part of a local project (Bedfords Park Walled Garden Project) and was then entered in to a local Horticultural Society Show where it won first place. The Project had 11 entries in various categories at the show and won nine prizes.

The Garden Project is run completely by volunteers and they are to be congratulated on their success and the pleasure they bring to the local community. The aim of the garden is to teach people about food, growing their own, giving valuable life skills to some and ‘skills for working’ to others. There are gardening clubs for the new and the experienced as well as many.

If our members are aware of any such similar projects around then country then please let us know as we will be happy to promote them. Or if you have any pumpkin stories or pictures of your own let us know.
